Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

Social Brew helps coffee lovers discover shops, log their visits, and connect with other coffee enthusiasts. Contact: privacy@socialbrewapp.com

2. What We Collect

  • Account info: email address, username, display name, profile photo, bio
  • Content you create: coffee shop ratings, captions, drink prices you log, photos, wishlist items, stories
  • Shop experience details: your notes on a shop's Wi-Fi, seating, outlets, music, and wait time. These are shown publicly on your post and are also shared with the shop to help it improve.
  • Social activity: follows, likes, comments, messages
  • Shop data: coffee shop locations, names, and details you add or edit
  • Location data: approximate device location when you use the Discover tab, to sort nearby shops by distance. Your precise GPS coordinates are not persistently stored or linked to your profile. Check-ins record approximate location temporarily and auto-expire. Location data is not shared with third parties.
  • Photo metadata: when you upload photos we read EXIF metadata (e.g. camera model) to process the image. Any GPS coordinates embedded in EXIF are not read or stored.
  • Device data: push notification token (only if you enable notifications)
  • Usage data: in-app events (pages visited, features used) via PostHog analytics
  • Loyalty data: punch card progress and redemption history at participating shops

3. How We Use Your Data

  • To provide and improve the Social Brew service
  • To show your content to your followers and the community
  • To send push notifications you have opted into
  • To understand how the app is used so we can improve it
  • To manage punch card loyalty programs with partner shops

4. Third Parties

  • Supabase: database and authentication (US servers)
  • Cloudflare Pages: hosting and CDN
  • Firebase / Google: push notifications
  • PostHog: pseudonymous usage analytics (linked to a pseudonymous identifier, not your name or email)
  • OpenStreetMap / Nominatim: address geocoding when adding shops

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

5. Your Rights

  • Access & correction: edit your profile at any time in Settings
  • Deletion: delete your account and all associated data from Settings → Delete Account
  • Notifications: disable push notifications at any time in Settings
  • Data requests: email privacy@socialbrewapp.com

6. Data Retention

Your data is retained while your account is active. Notifications are automatically deleted after 60 days. When you delete your account, all personal data is permanently removed within 30 days.

7. Age Requirement

Social Brew is intended for users aged 13 and older. If you are under 13, please do not use this app.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. You will be notified in-app when a new version requires your acceptance.

Terms of Service

1. Using Social Brew

By creating an account you agree to these terms. Social Brew is for personal, non-commercial use. You must be at least 13 years old.

2. Your Content

You own the content you post (ratings, photos, captions). By posting, you grant Social Brew a worldwide, royalty-free license to display, distribute, and reshare your content, including on Social Brew's Instagram and TikTok (@socialbrew_app), to celebrate the community and promote the platform. We will always credit you by username when resharing. You are responsible for ensuring your content does not infringe third-party rights.

3. Community Rules

You agree not to:

  • Post spam, abusive, harassing, or illegal content
  • Impersonate another person or business
  • Attempt to access accounts or systems you are not authorised to use
  • Use the app to scrape data or build competing services
  • Post fake shop reviews or manipulate ratings

Violations may result in account suspension or removal.

4. Punch Card Loyalty

Punch cards are managed by participating coffee shops. Social Brew facilitates the loyalty system but is not responsible for the fulfilment of rewards. Rewards are subject to each shop's own terms.

5. Shop Listings

Social Brew is limited to independent coffee shops operating a physical location open to the public. Online-only businesses, wholesale operations, and subscription services do not qualify for listing on the platform. Community-added shop data is provided in good faith. Social Brew does not guarantee the accuracy of shop information (hours, address, etc.). Please verify with the shop directly.

6. Disclaimers

Social Brew is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the app.

7. Termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. You may delete your account at any time from Settings.

8. Changes

We may update these terms. You will be notified in-app and asked to accept any material changes.

9. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles.

10. Dispute Resolution

Any dispute shall be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, except that either party may seek emergency injunctive relief in court. You and Social Brew both waive the right to participate in a class action or class arbitration. You may opt out by emailing legal@socialbrewapp.com within 30 days of first accepting these terms.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Social Brew and its operators from any claims, liabilities, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of: (a) your use of the app; (b) your content; or (c) your violation of these terms or any applicable law.

12. Copyright / DMCA

If you believe content on Social Brew infringes your copyright, send a written DMCA takedown notice to legal@socialbrewapp.com including the required identification, contact details, good-faith and accuracy statements, and your signature. We respond to valid notices promptly.
